We find the tutor
A coordinator matches the student with a tutor who knows the subject and shares open hours. If the fit is wrong, say so and we rematch — no awkwardness.
Weekly sessions begin
One hour a week, one-on-one, online. The pair keeps working together through the school year rather than starting over with a stranger each session.
Private tutoring runs $50 an hour or more. The students who need it most are the ones who can least afford it. So we made it free, and we let students teach students.

A UYSA chapter is a local team of student volunteers who recruit tutors and families in their own community. The tutoring stays free and the standards stay the same — what changes is that someone nearby knows the schools, the teachers, and the families.
Starting one is mostly showing up.
You don't need funding, a faculty sponsor, or a legal entity. You need a few committed people and a community that could use free tutoring.
- Two to three organizers. Students who can give a couple of hours a week to recruiting and scheduling.
- A place to find tutors. Usually your own high school or college — clubs, honor societies, group chats.
- A way to reach families. A local school, library, community center, or place of worship that will pass the word along.
- One semester of commitment. Long enough for the first matches to finish a school term.
You don't start from zero.

- Nonprofit standing. You operate under UYSA, so there's no paperwork to file.
- Matching and intake forms. The same registration system every chapter uses.
- Tutor training and materials. Onboarding, session guidance, and subject resources.

- Is it really free? Yes. There is no fee, no deposit, and no paid tier.
- Who qualifies? Any K–12 student. We don't ask about income or grades.
- Where do sessions happen? Online, over video, at a time the pair agrees on.
- How old are tutors? Middle school through college, screened and trained before matching.
- What if the match isn't working? Email us and we'll rematch the student.
